Baby Moccasins for Craft Book Month

I’m back today to share my second project for Craft Book Month at Craft Buds.

You still have three weeks to join in and create a project from any craft book for a chance
to win some awesome prizes!

Baby Moccasins

This project is also from the book “Little One-Yard Wonders” by Patricia Hoskins and Rebecca Yaker (Storey Publishing). I made the Baby Moccasins, a pattern by Sue Kim.

Baby Moccasins

Notice how I have more photos of Elliot not wearing the baby shoes than I do of him actually wearing them. This photo shoot had me laughing hysterically, because every time I squeeze his foot in one shoe, he’d managed to kick the other shoe off. Hah! Can anyone relate?

Baby Moccasins

I actually didn’t much mind… I think his feet look cuter with nothing on them. He does like to nibble on the shoes. With that in mind, I’ll probably pop the buttons off before having him “wear them” again.:)

I did change up the pattern to feature a different fabric on the sole (non-slip or “footie” fabric) and a contrasting fabric on the inside. I think these will be more practical once Elliot starts walking, and I really like that pop of black opposite the sole.

Baby Moccasins

These fabrics came from FreeSpirit, and they’re designed by Parson Gray. I think it’s fun to see something as delicate as baby shoes in prints that are designed to be more masculine and edgy.

Baby Moccasins

All in all, I found Sue’s pattern from the book to be easy to follow and really adorable. It’s been a while since I took the time to hand sew little details like this on a project, and I found it relaxing.

Craft Book Month

September
marks the 4th Annual Craft Book Month at Craft Buds! This year, we’re
excited to celebrate all month long with a blog hop of inspiring craft book projects and LOTS of giveaways for sewing along with a sewing, knitting, cookbook or other craft book of YOUR CHOICE.

If
you are a craft book hoarder, you are not alone. Several years ago, I
had an urge to dust off my craft books, unfold those crisp pattern
sheets and put those patterns to good use by actually making some
projects. 🙂
