2011 Crafty Resolutions

When I look back at 2010, I treasure the new discoveries I’ve found through crafting and the relationships formed by meeting others with shared interests. I’ve learned that crafters are genuinely nice and interesting people. I’m also happy to be a part of a greater community where people so freely share inspiration!

I’m setting some crafty goals for 2011, in addition to some personal goals for myself and my freelance writing with Word Out. (That’s me, on the left.)
Freelance Writing
For those of you who don’t know, I write a column for Examiner on one of my favorite reality shows, The Bachelor. For the next year, I’m committing to write one article per week, even in the dead zones between seasons. This will be a challenge while I’m keeping up with regular clients, but it will be worth it in the long run.

Adoption Planning
In 2011, my husband and I are planning to start the adoption process, something we can’t talk about in much detail until we know more ourselves! In January or February we will find out if we will be accepted into the South Korea adoption program. At that point, we expect to have a better timeline of events and I’m going to be thinking of creative ways to make and save money, because, well, an adoption doesn’t pay for itself!

Blogging
In 2011, I’m looking forward to growing my blog audience and building partnerships with others like me through linkups and giveaways. If you’re like-minded, send me a message and we’ll talk. I’m also going to be sewing at least one project a week and posting free tutorials in the upcoming year.

Knitting
A few years ago, I learned to knit and crochet. When I got a sewing machine, I gave all of my yarn and needles to a friend because I was sick of untangling yarn, and sewing just seemed to “fit” me better. Well, now there’s a knitting club at my work, and I’ve got the urge to pick up the habit again. This year, I resolve to pick up the sticks.

Sewing
In the next few days, I’m planning to submit 3 original projects to some magazines I admire, and I’ll be crossing my fingers for a project acceptance letter. I’ve been experimenting with my Cricut, fabric scraps, and freezer paper (tutorial coming soon). I’m also planning to embellish some handmade cards with my sewing machine. And some babies in my life told me they are also in need of some handsewn swag, so I’ve got a list of projects in mind, ranging from apparel to room decor!
